Singida Black Stars set to compete in Muungano tournament

Singida Black Stars Football Club has confirmed its participation in the highly anticipated Muungano Tournament, officially known as the Tanzania Super League, scheduled to take place in Zanzibar from April 21 to 27, 2025.

The announcement was made by the club’s Head of Information and Communication, Hussein Masanza, who stated that the club had received a formal invitation from the Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) and has already confirmed its participation.

“It is a great honor for us as a club to be invited to this prestigious tournament. It reflects the growth and recognition of Singida Black Stars in national football,” said Masanza.

The Muungano Tournament is held annually as part of celebrations to mark the Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar.

It brings together selected football clubs from both the Mainland and Zanzibar, offering a platform to showcase talent, unity, and competitive spirit across the United Republic of Tanzania.

Masanza emphasized that Singida Black Stars are not attending the tournament just to take part, but to compete and contend for the title.

He revealed that preparations are already underway, with the technical bench and players fully committed to delivering strong performances.

“We are not going there just to participate—we are going to compete. Our aim is to represent Singida and the Mainland with pride and determination. The team is training hard, and we are confident in our squad,” he added.

He also urged fans and supporters, especially those in Zanzibar, to turn out in large numbers and cheer for the team during the tournament.

Addressing circulating rumors, Masanza dismissed claims that Singida Black Stars had been invited to replace Simba SC, who will not be part of this year’s edition. He clarified that there was no mention of any replacement in the official communication.

“We were invited in our own right. The letter we received does not refer to us taking the place of any other club, including Simba SC. Our participation is based on merit and recognition,” he clarified.

The team recently returned from Tanga following a league fixture against Coastal Union at Mkwakwani Stadium and is now focused on preparations for the upcoming tournament in Zanzibar.

Masanza concluded by expressing hope that the tournament will be a stepping stone for greater achievements in the club’s journey.
