Former Simba SC official and long-time member Mwina Kaduguda has expressed strong confidence in the club’s chances of reaching the final of the CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC), following their impressive quarter-final performance.
Simba secured a spot in the semi-finals after defeating Egypt’s Al Masry 4–1 in a dramatic penalty shootout, marking a significant milestone in the club’s continental campaign.
The Tanzanian giants are set to face South Africa’s Stellenbosch FC in the semi-final, with the first leg scheduled to take place at home on April 20.
Speaking ahead of the crucial clash, Kaduguda urged all stakeholders to work together toward a common goal, emphasizing that success requires more than just talent on the pitch.
“For Simba to reach the final, two things are essential: unity and commitment. Players must fight with determination on the field, while leaders and officials must step up in terms of management and governance. Everyone must perform their duties effectively,” said Kaduguda.
He underscored that collective effort is the key ingredient behind the club’s journey so far.
“That spirit of teamwork is the real secret behind Simba’s progress,” he noted.
Kaduguda also cautioned against underestimating opponents, drawing lessons from the painful 5–0 defeat Simba suffered against rivals Yanga SC.
“Let’s not underestimate any team. That kind of mindset is what cost us when we faced Yanga. Today, I want to warn against taking Stellenbosch lightly. Just because they are less known doesn’t mean they’re weak. The most important thing is for our players to prepare to play the match not just to play football,” he emphasized.
According to official statistics released by CAF, Simba SC has now earned 43 points, propelling the club to fourth place in the rankings of Africa’s top football clubs.
This marks the first time a team from East Africa has reached such a position a testament to the growing strength of football in the region.
