Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila has assured residents that the region remains peaceful and stable as the country gears up for the 2025 General Election.
Speaking during a press briefing held on April 18, 2025, RC Chalamila highlighted key development achievements, security measures, and future plans aimed at strengthening infrastructure and economic growth in the city.
“Our region is safe, and the government is fully prepared to ensure peace and stability before, during, and after the General Election,” said RC Chalamila. “We want every citizen who is registered to vote to do so freely, calmly, and without fear.”
He called on political actors to maintain discipline during campaigns, emphasizing that any signs of unrest will be addressed promptly.
“We encourage civil and respectful politics. The police are on alert and will respond to any incident that threatens the peace,” he warned.
On the development front, RC Chalamila announced that the construction of the Jangwani Bridge has officially begun.
“The contractor is already on-site, building storage facilities and preparing for full construction. This bridge is not just a project it’s a solution to the long-standing flood challenges in that area,” he stated confidently.
He also shared updates on road infrastructure projects under the Dar es Salaam Metropolitan Development Project (DMDP).
“Many contractors have already started work, and within a short time, roads that are still pending will see action,” he assured.
“We’re also working on strengthening the Bus Rapid Transit system by encouraging more private sector investment to improve urban mobility.”
Addressing the region’s ambition to operate a 24-hour economy, Chalamila pointed out several advantages Dar es Salaam holds.
“With our international airport, port, the modern Magufuli Bus Terminal, reliable electricity, and the vibrant Kariakoo market, Dar is well-positioned to operate round the clock,” he explained. “We want to harness these assets to boost trade and create jobs.”
He also took the opportunity to remind citizens about their role in supporting development through taxation.
“Paying taxes is not a punishment it’s a contribution to the very development we all benefit from. I urge everyone to continue raising awareness about the importance of tax compliance,” he said.
Concluding the briefing, RC Chalamila extended his Easter greetings to Christians and residents across the region.
“I wish all Christians and the people of Dar es Salaam a peaceful and joyful Easter. Let us celebrate with love and unity. Remember, the police are working 24/7 to ensure your safety,” he said warmly.
He also introduced Mr. Pimbi and his team as newly appointed regional ambassadors tasked with promoting the achievements of the Sixth Phase Government.
“These ambassadors will help spread awareness of the progress we’re making across Dar es Salaam,” he noted.
