Missenyi community urged to support school development

Residents of Missenyi District have been encouraged to work closely with new development partners to boost community progress, especially in education, instead of creating unnecessary obstacles.

This message was shared during a special community event held on Thursday, led by Mr. Evance Kamenge from Kigarama Village in Kanyigo Ward.

The occasion focused on supporting two local schools Kigarama and Nshumba Primary Schools.

During the event, Mr. Kamenge raised concerns about the current political atmosphere, where some leaders see every new initiative as a threat to their position.

He said such attitudes discourage support that could benefit the community. He urged local leaders and residents to promote a culture of volunteering and giving back especially in education to help students who are most in need.

He also highlighted major challenges facing schools, such as a shortage of teachers and learning materials.

He questioned whether the free education system, as it stands, is sustainable and suggested that introducing small contributions might help improve quality.

As part of his efforts to support education, Mr. Kamenge donated two computers each with 8GB RAM and 700GB of storage to the two schools.

He also donated five footballs and sports uniforms to Kigarama Primary School. In addition, he pledged to provide a large printer to the Ward Education Office by June 2025 to further support education in the area.

Mr. Kamenge said he had initially planned to make the donations quietly, but later decided to go public in the hope that it would inspire others, both inside and outside Tanzania, to join hands in community development.

Nickson Rutahakana, the head teacher of Kigarama Primary School, expressed his deep appreciation to Mr. Kamenge for the school’s seventh-grade graduation ceremony, as per his invitation in 2024.

Though Mr. Kamenge was abroad, he sent a representative to the event, showing his strong commitment to the community.

Mr. Rutahakana also acknowledged other partners who helped the school install rain gutters and construct two large water tanks improvements that have solved the school’s water challenges.

However, the school committee chairman, Geofrey David, reminded those in attendance that more still needs to be done, including renovating school buildings and maintaining the facilities.

Kanyigo Ward Councilor Walter Nyahoza and Ward Education Officer Muchunguzi Ishabairu praised the growing spirit of generosity and community support. They said such efforts show that the people of Kanyigo are moving together toward development.

The event brought together local government officials, village leaders, and residents, creating a strong sense of unity and shared purpose in tackling challenges facing schools in the district.
