Ceasiaa Queens made a strong statement in their opening match of the Tanzania Women’s Premier League, securing a 2-1 comeback win against Bunda Queens in a thrilling encounter held today at Samora Stadium in Iringa.
After a temporary pause in league action, the Women’s Premier League resumed today with this single fixture, drawing fans and football enthusiasts back to the stands.
Ceasiaa Queens and Bunda Queens stepped onto the pitch with determination, but it was Bunda who struck first.
In just the 12th minute of the match, Bunda Queens took the lead through forward Jamila Makongo, who slotted home a well-taken goal to give her side a 1-0 advantage.
The early goal set the tone for a fast-paced first half, with both teams pressing forward and creating chances.
Despite their efforts, Ceasiaa Queens were unable to find the back of the net before the break, and Bunda Queens maintained their narrow lead going into halftime.
However, the second half saw a more organized and aggressive Ceasiaa side take control of the game. Their persistence paid off in the 65th minute when Rahma Hamlani found herself in a perfect position to score the equalizer, beating the Bunda Queens goalkeeper with a clinical finish to make it 1-1.
As the match progressed, momentum shifted clearly in Ceasiaa’s favor. Their attacking pressure intensified, and in the 79th minute, they were rewarded again this time through Margaret Kunihira, who calmly converted to put Ceasiaa ahead for the first time in the match. Her goal would prove to be the decider, as the Iringa-based side managed to hold off a late push from Bunda Queens to claim all three points.
It was a promising start for Ceasiaa Queens, who now look to build on this victory as the season unfolds. The result also serves as a wake-up call for Bunda Queens, who will need to regroup quickly ahead of their next fixture.
