The Attorney General and Patron of the Government Lawyers Association of Tanzania, Hamza S. Johari, has led government lawyers in attending the Annual General Meeting of the Association, taking place in Dodoma from April 14 to 15, 2025.
In his address at the event, the Attorney General emphasized the importance of using the meeting as a platform to engage in in-depth discussions on various issues affecting both the Association and the broader legal sector.
“As we all know, the primary objective of this meeting is to provide a space for members to deliberate on key matters impacting our association,” Johari stated.
Additionally, Johari reminded government lawyers of their crucial role in helping achieve the National Development Vision 2050, stressing the significance of the theme of this year’s meeting: “Rule of Law in the implementation of government duties is a critical pillar in achieving the goals of the National Development Vision 2050.”
“Our theme for this year is directly aligned with the National Vision for 2050. To achieve this vision, we must establish and maintain a strong legal framework. As legal professionals, we are key facilitators in guiding the country toward this goal,” he added.
Earlier in the session, the Deputy Attorney General, Samwel M. Maneno, welcomed the Attorney General and reassured government lawyers that the Office of the Attorney General remains committed to ensuring that they continue performing their duties with confidence, security, and unwavering support.
“We will ensure that every lawyer, no matter their location, effectively represents the Attorney General’s office. The doors of the Office of the Attorney General are always open to listen and offer assistance,” Maneno affirmed.
The Deputy Attorney General of Zanzibar, Mr. Shaaban Ramadhan Abdalla, also expressed gratitude to the Office of the Attorney General and the Government Lawyers Association of Tanzania for inviting the Zanzibar Attorney General’s Office to attend the meeting.
He commended the Association for its continuous dedication to guiding and supporting government lawyers in their roles.
The Government Lawyers Association Annual General Meeting began on April 14, 2025, with government lawyers reviewing several important reports related to the association.
The meeting will continue until April 15, 2025, with Dkt. Doto Mashaka Biteko, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, expected to be the official guest.
During the event, the lawyers will also hold elections to select new leaders for the Government Lawyers Association, who will serve a one-year term.
