Tanzania and Oman to partner in tourism

Tanzania and Oman have agreed to work together to improve tourism and natural resource management.

The decision was made during a meeting between Tanzania’s Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Pindi Chana, and Oman’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Saud Al-Shidhani, held today, March 6, 2025, in Dar es Salaam.

Hon. Chana said the partnership will focus on investment, training, and business opportunities in tourism and hospitality. She suggested signing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen cooperation.

"We want tourism and transport companies in both countries to work together to improve marketing and attract more visitors.

This will also connect tour guides, hotel owners, and travel agencies to create new business opportunities," she said.

She also encouraged joint participation in tourism exhibitions and promotions, such as Tanzania’s Swahili International Tourism Expo (S!TE), roadshows, and familiarization (FAM) trips to showcase tourism attractions.

"It’s important to invest in training and skills development in tourism and hospitality. I propose partnerships between tourism colleges in both countries," she added.

Ambassador Al-Shidhani said Oman is ready to support Tanzania by promoting its tourism and investing in forest reserves, lakes, and waterfalls.

"We are ready to work together through roadshows, bring influencers to Tanzania, and invest in key tourism areas," he said.

He also expressed interest in linking Omani tourism institutions with Tanzanian ones, including the National College of Tourism and the Tanzania Tourist Board.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB), the National College of Tourism (NCT), and the National Museum of Tanzania (NMT).
