Tanzania and Ireland have agreed to improve cooperation in various areas of development and the economy to boost their diplomatic, business, and investment relations.

The agreement was made during official talks between Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation,  Mahmoud Thabit Kombo (MP), and Ireland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade,  Neale Richmond, who is in charge of international cooperation, development, and diaspora issues.

The meeting took place at the Ministry’s office in Dar es Salaam, where the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen their relationship for the benefit of both countries, focusing on economic and social growth.

Kombo thanked the government of Ireland for its long-term support and contributions in areas like education, business, investment, tourism, health, gender equality, women’s empowerment, and livestock development.

He also congratulated Hon. Richmond on his first official visit to Tanzania, saying that the visit showed a strong commitment to building a closer relationship between the two countries.

Kombo emphasized the need to increase trade between Tanzania and Ireland. He encouraged Irish investors to explore opportunities in Tanzania, especially in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, renewable energy, information and communication technology (ICT), manufacturing, and infrastructure.

He pointed out that trade between the two countries is still low and suggested that both nations should develop strategies to improve and balance their trade.

In the tourism sector,  Kombo proposed efforts to promote Tanzania’s attractions to Irish travelers and to improve transportation infrastructure to make the country more accessible to visitors.

He also suggested setting up a political consultation system between Tanzania and Ireland to strengthen diplomatic relations and improve cooperation on international issues.

Hon. Richmond pledged to further strengthen the economic and social ties between the two countries for the benefit of both.

He highlighted the importance of economic, cultural, and educational cooperation, stressing that education is key to sustainable development.

He also emphasized that peace and security are essential for the prosperity of both countries and urged joint efforts to maintain political and social stability for balanced development.
