On March 14, 2025, the Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Jerry William Silaa (MP), participated in the installation of equipment for a new Communication Tower in Idete Village, Chanzuru Ward, Kilosa District, in Morogoro Region.
This tower is part of the 758 Communication Towers being built by the Government through the Digital Tanzania Project.
The project aims to improve communication services in remote villages and areas with poor infrastructure.
Out of the 758 towers, 69 will be built in Morogoro Region, with 26 of them located in reserves and game parks. Kilosa District alone will benefit from 17 towers.
The new communication tower in Idete Village, built by Airtel Tanzania, will help solve communication problems for over 7,000 residents. This will improve both social and economic activities in the village.
The Executive Director of the Universal Communications Service Access Fund (UCSAF), Eng. Peter Mwasalyanda, shared that the tower will be finished and turned on by April 1, 2025, and will officially be handed over on April 15, 2025.
He also mentioned that, so far, 420 out of the 758 towers, or 55%, have been completed and are already providing service.
