The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, recently met with the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, to discuss strengthening the relationship between Tanzania and Barbados.
The meeting, held at Prime Minister Mottley’s residence in Bridgetown, Barbados, focused on improving cooperation in areas like tourism and water.
Prime Minister Mottley stressed the need for a joint plan to boost tourism between Barbados, Tanzania, and other East African countries.
She highlighted the many tourism opportunities that could benefit both countries, including areas related to hospitality.
The two leaders also talked about the importance of exchanging technical skills between the Caribbean and African countries.
They agreed on the need to improve markets and share experts in various fields. Dr. Biteko supported these ideas and said that experts from both countries should work together to make sure the plans succeed.

He also spoke about Tanzania’s Clean Cooking Energy campaign, which aims to help 80% of energy users switch to clean energy by 2034.
Dr. Biteko shared that Tanzania is leading the way in promoting this plan, which will reduce the health and environmental problems caused by using dirty energy.
Dr. Biteko also mentioned the M300 summit that took place in Dar es Salaam, which focuses on providing electricity to 300 million people in Africa who currently have no access to power.
He explained that Tanzania’s involvement in the Sustainable Energy for All summit in Barbados shows the country’s strong commitment to achieving positive results in energy access.
He also emphasized that there are many opportunities for both countries to work together and improve the well-being of their citizens.
Dr. Biteko’s visit to Barbados was part of his official trip, which included attending the International Sustainable Energy for All Conference and meeting with various stakeholders to discuss ways to improve the energy sector.
He was joined by the Minister of Water, Energy, Mr. Shaib Kaduara, Tanzania’s Ambassador to Cuba, Mr. Humphrey Polepole, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Ms. Felichesmi Mramba, and the President's Advisor on Energy and Community Development, Ms. Angellah Kairuki.
