PAC committee praises REA for rural electrification in Singida region

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament, led by Acting Chairperson  Joseph Kakunda, visited Singida Region on March 14, 2025, to review rural electrification projects.

The committee looked at the progress of previous projects like REA Phase I, Phase II, REA Phase III Round I, and REA Phase III Round II.

Thanks to these projects, all 441 villages in the region now have electricity, and 1,052 out of 2,289 hamlets are electrified, which is about 46% of all the hamlets in Singida.

During the visit, Kakunda praised the Rural Energy Agency (REA), the agency’s management, and the government for their work in planning, launching, and carrying out these projects to bring electricity to the people of Singida.

He highlighted that electricity can greatly improve the lives of rural people if used properly.

“We are happy with what we have seen in Kitopeni village, Aghondi, and at the Mabondeni village dispensary.

We thank the government, through REA, for making electricity available. We urge people to increase the speed of connecting to electricity and create plans to ensure it helps them improve their lives,” said  Kakunda.

Mr. Godfrey Chibulunje, the Director of Planning and Research, who represented the REA Director General, shared that the government has invested 86.8 billion Tanzanian shillings to support four electrification projects in the region.

The goal is to provide electricity to residents and help them improve their economic and social lives.

“The Rural Energy Agency (REA) is working hard to implement these projects and is closely monitoring all contractors to ensure they complete the work on time and with good quality, so the community can benefit,” said Mr. Chibulunje.

The PAC Committee is currently touring different regions to monitor development projects and will visit Singida, Manyara, Arusha, Kilimanjaro, and Dar es Salaam.
