The Tanzanian national football team, Taifa Stars, departed today, March 21, 2025, for Morocco ahead of their crucial World Cup 2026 qualification match.
Under the guidance of Coach Suleiman Hemedi 'Morocco,' the team has been training in Tanga before heading to Morocco for the upcoming fixture.
Taifa Stars will face Morocco on March 25, 2025, in a World Cup qualifier at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.
Speaking yesterday during the flag handover ceremony at an Iftar event organized by the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) in Tanga, the Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, Hamis Mwinjuma, commended the leadership of TFF President Wallace Karia, emphasizing that they truly deserve recognition.
Mwinjuma pointed out that Tanzania is one of the top three African countries to have qualified for seven CAF-organized competitions, alongside Senegal and Morocco.
“There’s an old saying, ‘Give credit where it’s due,’ but I’d like to suggest a different approach—‘Those who deserve credit should be honored,’” Mwinjuma said. “We are aware that there are larger nations, but they’re not on the list of qualifiers.”
He attributed this achievement to the strong strategies in place and the commitment to nurturing and developing football talent in the country.
Furthermore, Mwinjuma highlighted the success in identifying young, talented players from various regions, with many now training at the Tanga football center, where their education is also supported.
TFF President Karia, on his part, appealed to the people of Tanga to pray for Taifa Stars, hoping the team will deliver a strong performance and take a giant step towards World Cup qualification.
He also mentioned that after the match in Morocco, the team will return to Tanzania to face Zambia and Niger, where they had previously secured six points in away matches.
