The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Local Government Accounts (LAAC), Halima Mdee, has called on public servants and leaders to fulfill their responsibilities with efficiency to improve service delivery for citizens.

Speaking during the committee’s visit to inspect various health and education projects in Kyela District, Mbeya Region,  Mdee emphasized the need for accountability and timely execution of duties.

“If everyone does their job properly and on time, there will be no need for leaders to conduct frequent inspections,” she stated.

She underscored the importance of public servants taking ownership of service delivery, noting that “Given the vastness of our country, it is impossible for a single leader to visit every area to provide services. That is why these responsibilities are entrusted to public servants—to ensure citizens receive the services they deserve.”

Mdee also urged public servants to act on the recommendations given by the Parliamentary Committee and address the issues raised by the Controller and Auditor General (CAG).

“It is crucial that public servants implement the committee’s directives and provide accurate reports to resolve any discrepancies,” she added.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister in the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (OR-TAMISEMI), Dr. Festo Dugange, assured that the ministry is committed to ensuring full compliance with the committee’s recommendations.

“We have taken note of all the directives given, and our office will ensure their full implementation,” he affirmed.

Dr. Dugange also stressed the importance of accountability in project implementation. “Public servants must ensure that the funds allocated for development projects are used efficiently so that projects are completed on time while maintaining value for money,” he said.
