The Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Dr. Charles Msonde, has informed the Public Investments Committee (PIC) that the construction of Shinyanga Airport is set to be completed by June 2025.
Dr. Msonde reported that the project is currently 75% complete. Key developments, including the runway, parking area, and access roads, have been finished, while the construction of the passenger terminal is progressing well.
"Mr. Chairman, the airport's runway stretches 2,200 meters in length and is 30 meters wide, which will accommodate aircraft like the Bombardier Q400," Dr. Msonde explained.
He further highlighted that over 48.5 billion Tanzanian shillings will be invested in the project, generating employment for more than 240 people.
Once completed, the airport is expected to stimulate growth in agriculture, mining, and commerce in the region.
Augustine Vuma, Chairman of the Public Investments Committee (PIC), commended the Ministry of Works and the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) for their outstanding efforts.
He urged them to ensure the timely completion of the project and the swift launch of air transport services.
"The work is commendable. TANROADS, TAA, and TCAA must ensure seamless communication so that air transport services in Shinyanga can begin without delay," Mr. Vuma emphasized.
Julius Mtatiro, Acting Regional Commissioner of Shinyanga, added that the completion of the airport will not only ease travel for passengers but also drive growth in Shinyanga Municipality.
