The Minister for Home Affairs, Innocent Bashungwa, emphasized the government's recognition of the significant contributions made by the Peace and Reconciliation Community in Tanzania (JMAT) for its pivotal role in promoting peace, love, and unity among Tanzanians, regardless of their religious, political, or social differences.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam, where he represented Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa at an Iftar gathering for religious leaders and peace stakeholders, Bashungwa highlighted the importance of this community’s efforts.
"The government acknowledges the great contribution of JMAT in ensuring that we continue to have a peaceful and stable society, irrespective of our differences in faith, ideology, and culture," said Bashungwa.
"JMAT has been at the forefront of spreading the message of unity and reconciliation, playing a key role in fostering peace across the country."
Further emphasizing the need to safeguard peace during the upcoming election period, the Grand Mufti of Tanzania, Sheikh Aboubakar Zubeir, urged Tanzanians to remain vigilant.
"We must continue to protect the peace that we have and avoid any actions that could threaten it," said Sheikh Zubeir. "As the country heads into the general election, it is crucial that we remain united and focused on keeping our communities safe and harmonious."
During the event, leaders from various sectors were honored for their efforts in promoting peace, with awards presented by the Chairman of the Peace and Reconciliation Community, Sheikh Alhad Musa Salim.
"These awards recognize those who have shown exemplary commitment to fostering peace and reconciliation in our country," said Sheikh Salim.
