President of Tanzania, Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan, has praised the completion of the Same Mwanga Korongwe water project, describing it as a "liberation" for the people of Same, Mwanga, and Korongwe districts.
Speaking to local residents, the President emphasized that the project represents a transformative step in improving their access to clean and safe water, which will significantly enhance their daily lives.
In her speech, President Samia highlighted that the new water supply would relieve residents of the burden of traveling long distances to fetch water, a task that has long hindered the productivity, health, and well-being of local communities.
She explained that this project is not just about providing water but about improving livelihoods and ensuring the community's long-term health and prosperity.
"For many years, residents, especially women and children, have spent hours each day collecting water. Now, this project will reduce that hardship, allowing people to focus on more productive activities," President Samia said.
The new water sources, she pointed out, will be located closer to the communities, making it easier and faster for people to access clean water.
The project is also expected to improve public health outcomes in the region. Previously, many residents had to rely on contaminated water sources, which led to frequent outbreaks of waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, and dysentery.
With the new infrastructure in place, these diseases are expected to decline, contributing to better overall health and reduced healthcare costs for local residents.
Agriculture, a key sector in Same, Mwanga, and Korongwe, will also benefit from the project. The availability of reliable water for irrigation, particularly during the dry seasons, will boost crop yields, improve food security, and provide farmers with a sustainable means of increasing their income.
"This project will empower farmers and improve agricultural productivity, which is vital for the region's economy," President Samia added.
During her speech, the President also called on local communities to take responsibility for maintaining the water systems.
While the government has invested heavily in the infrastructure, she emphasized the importance of local involvement in ensuring the long-term success of the project.
"This is your project, and it is your responsibility to make sure it continues to serve you well," President Samia urged the residents. She proposed that local committees be formed to manage the water supply and ensure its proper use.
The Same Mwanga Korongwe water project is part of Tanzania's broader national effort to improve water access and reduce water scarcity in both urban and rural areas.
It is aligned with the government's goals of improving infrastructure and delivering essential services to underserved communities.
This project is one of many water supply initiatives launched across the country to ensure that every Tanzanian has access to clean, safe drinking water.
In conclusion, the Same Mwanga Korongwe water project is a major achievement that will not only improve the daily lives of residents in these districts but also contribute to the overall development of Tanzania.
By improving access to clean water, the government is laying the foundation for healthier, more prosperous communities.
As President Samia Suluhu Hassan aptly stated, this project is a "liberation" for the people, and it marks a significant step toward a brighter future for all Tanzanians.
