The government has signed a contract to build a four-lane road from Mbagala Rangi Tatu to Kongowe to reduce traffic congestion in the area.

The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Works through the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) in Dar es Salaam.

The signing ceremony took place today, Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the TANROADS office in Dar es Salaam.

TANROADS Regional Manager, Engineer Alinanuswe Kyamba, confirmed that construction would start immediately.

"Today, we have signed a contract to build a 3.8-kilometer four-lane road from Mbagala Rangi Tatu to Kongowe.

The project will cost TZS 54 billion and will take 15 months to complete," said Engineer Kyamba.

The construction will be carried out by STECOL Corporation, a Chinese company, which has promised to complete the work on time and meet high-quality standards.

Engineer Kyamba emphasized that this road project is part of the government's plan to improve roads in Dar es Salaam, following President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directive.

“We expect that once the road is completed, traffic congestion in Mbagala Rangi Tatu will be a thing of the past,” he added.

Mr. Ma Ziheng, speaking on behalf of STECOL Corporation, assured that the company would follow all quality standards and complete the project as agreed.

This road is an important link in Dar es Salaam, where people have struggled with heavy traffic for a long time.

TANROADS stated that the new road will ease transport, save travel time, and support economic growth for individuals and the country.

During one of her visits, President Samia directed the government to solve the traffic problem in Mbagala Rangi Tatu and other busy areas in Dar es Salaam.

This project is part of that plan, aiming to speed up road improvements and make transportation easier for everyone.
