The fourth season of the 'NBC Waitara Trophy' golf tournament, held in honor of the founder of the Lugalo Golf Club, is set to take place on March 22 this year at the Lugalo Golf Club course in Dar es Salaam.
Speaking to reporters on March 19, 2025, the Chairman of Lugalo Golf Club, Retired Brigadier General Michael Luwongo, said that various clubs across the country have been invited and have confirmed their participation.
He noted that there has been a great response, and they expect even more participants, urging interested golfers to register.
"This year, we anticipate a different atmosphere compared to previous editions. With NBC as our partner, the tournament will be exceptional," Luwongo said.
He added that the competition will feature different categories, including A, B, and C divisions, as well as juniors, seniors, women, and veterans.
On his part, NBC Bank's Head of Marketing, David Raymond, said that the bank will continue to collaborate with the Tanzania People's Defence Forces (TPDF) to promote the sport.
"Our goal is to support sports development in the country, not only for recreation but also as a means to create job opportunities and promote health," he said.
"We have been supporting various sports, including football, athletics, and golf, with the aim of enhancing and growing the sports sector in Tanzania," he added.
Raymond also mentioned that there will be a variety of prizes, including special awards for young players to encourage and nurture future talent.
He called on participants to register in large numbers and urged other stakeholders to come and witness the tournament.
Meanwhile, Lugalo Golf Club Captain, Major Japhet Masai, has encouraged those who have not yet registered to do so.
He also announced that the draw for the players is scheduled to take place tomorrow, where each participant will know their opponents.
