The Minister for Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi, has dissolved the leadership of the Tanzania Professional Boxing Regulatory Commission (TPBRC) following an investigation into multiple allegations brought forward by boxing stakeholders.
In a statement, Prof. Kabudi said that to ensure transparency and fairness, he appointed a special investigative committee on May 8, 2024, to examine the complaints and establish the truth.
"After a thorough investigation, the committee confirmed that the TPBRC leadership had serious administrative shortcomings," he stated.
Among the issues identified were abuse of power, violations of national laws and the commission’s 2018 constitution, and a failure to uphold principles of good governance and accountability in managing the commission’s resources.
Prof. Kabudi further revealed that financial mismanagement was a key concern, with funds being misused contrary to national laws, the TPBRC constitution, and financial accountability regulations.
In response to these findings, the minister has directed legal action against those removed from office to serve as a warning to other sports federation leaders in the country.
"This should also serve as a wake-up call to leaders of other sports associations and federations to adhere to good governance, uphold the constitutions of their institutions, and conduct themselves ethically to foster the growth of the sports they oversee," he emphasized.
