The Minister for Industry and Trade, Dr. Seleman Jafo, has officially closed a 12-day training program for supervisors and enumerators of the industrial production census.

The training, held at Iringa College of Education, brought together 246 participants from all regions of Tanzania.

Speaking during the closing ceremony, Dr. Jafo emphasized the importance of integrity, professionalism, and accuracy in conducting the census.

“This exercise is crucial for our country’s industrial growth. The data you collect will guide the government in making informed decisions to strengthen our industries and improve production,” he said.

He urged the enumerators to take their responsibilities seriously, reminding them of the direct impact their work would have on Tanzania’s economic planning.

“Industries are a key driver of our economy. Reliable data will help us identify challenges and opportunities, allowing us to create policies that support industrial expansion,” he added.

Representing the Iringa Regional Commissioner, Iringa District Commissioner Kheri James assured the Minister that the local government would fully support the enumerators to ensure a smooth and successful census process.

“We understand the importance of this exercise, and we will work closely with you to make sure you complete your work without any difficulties,” he said.

James further stressed that industrial growth is a national priority and that accurate data collection is essential for policy development.

“With reliable statistics, the government can address challenges facing industries and create a more favorable business environment,” he noted.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) organized and supervised the training as part of its preparations for the industrial production census.

The program focused on equipping participants with the skills needed to collect data efficiently. Enumerators received training on conducting interviews, using data collection tools, and verifying the accuracy of industry information.

Dr. Jafo highlighted the significance of the census, stating that the findings would help attract investment, boost productivity, and create more job opportunities.

“This is not just about numbers; this is about shaping the future of our industries. Your work will help us understand where we stand and where we need to go,” he emphasized.

As the training concluded, he expressed confidence in the enumerators, urging them to uphold high standards in their work.

“I trust that you will carry out this task with dedication and accuracy. The success of this census depends on your efforts,” he concluded.

With the training complete, the enumerators are now set to begin fieldwork, marking an essential step in strengthening Tanzania’s industrial sector through data-driven policies.
