The government has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors to accelerate economic growth and national development.
It has pledged to enhance engagement with private enterprises to ensure the successful implementation of key projects.
This commitment was highlighted by the Acting Commissioner of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Unit at the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Bashiru Taratibu, during the closing of a training session on the PPP concept, the PPP Act (Cap 103), and the National PPP Policy.
The session, attended by budget officers from the Ministry of Finance, was held at the Treasury Sub-Office in Morogoro.
Mr. Taratibu urged the private sector to actively participate in national development efforts, emphasizing its crucial role in supplementing government initiatives to improve essential services such as healthcare, water supply, and education.
“Many countries leverage public-private partnerships to successfully implement development projects. We encourage private sector players to collaborate with the government in delivering essential services that were traditionally provided by the public sector,” he said.
He further noted that the training aimed to equip Ministry of Finance officials with in-depth knowledge of PPPs, given their pivotal role in budget planning and economic policy formulation.
“This course is designed to enhance your expertise and strengthen cooperation. When a project proposal arises, you will be well-prepared to assess its viability and provide informed recommendations to the Minister of Finance,” Mr. Taratibu added.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mr. Tumwesige Kazaura, Budget Officer in the Department of Administration and Human Resource Management and chairperson of the training, said the sessions had deepened their understanding of the importance of public-private partnerships.
“This training has given us a clearer picture of the Ministry’s initiatives. Moving forward, we will not only understand PPP projects better but also serve as ambassadors, educating others within and outside the Ministry,” he stated.
Ms. Angelina Chilewa, a Budget Officer from the Legal Services Department at the Ministry of Finance, applauded the Ministry’s PPP Unit for organizing the training, promising to raise awareness about the benefits of PPPs within the community.
“We truly appreciate this training. We will actively share our knowledge in our workplaces and beyond, shifting perceptions and highlighting the advantages that the government can gain through PPP projects,” she said.
The Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with stakeholders, is currently implementing the National PPP Policy and the PPP Act (Cap 103) to drive sustainable development and economic growth.
