The Electricity Transmission and Distribution Construction and Rehabilitation Company (ETDCO) has successfully energized a 132-kilovolt (kV) transmission line stretching 115 kilometers from Tabora to Urambo.

The project is set to provide a stable and reliable power supply to residents of Urambo and Kaliua, driving economic growth and development in the region.

Speaking today, March 20, 2025, in Tabora during the official commissioning of the new line, ETDCO Acting General Manager CPA Sadock Mugendi expressed gratitude to the government and the Ministry of Energy, through TANESCO, for entrusting them with the project.

He assured residents that they can now expect a consistent and uninterrupted electricity supply.

"This project has been successfully implemented by local experts, proving that we have the capacity to deliver major power infrastructure projects efficiently and on time," Mugendi said.

TANESCO's Project Manager for the Tabora-Katavi project, Engineer Sospeter Oralo, revealed that the initiative cost TZS 40 billion, with TZS 24 billion allocated for the 132kV transmission line and TZS 16 billion for the construction of the Urambo substation. He noted that the entire project was fully funded by the Government of Tanzania.

ETDCO's Acting Director of Technical Services, Engineer Dismas Massawe, emphasized that the commissioning of the line will ensure a reliable electricity supply for Urambo and Kaliua through the Uhuru Substation in Urambo, which houses a 28-megawatt transformer.

ETDCO’s Project Manager for the Tabora-Urambo section, Engineer Ntuli Burton, disclosed that while the project was originally scheduled for completion in June 2025, it was finished ahead of time after construction began in April 2024.

“We are grateful to have completed this project before the deadline, ensuring that the people of Urambo can access stable electricity as soon as possible,” he said.

The 132kV Tabora-Urambo transmission line is expected to be a catalyst for development in Urambo, Kaliua, and the entire Tabora region, supporting industrial growth, businesses, and improved livelihoods.
