The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) is looking to expand electricity generation through diverse energy sources at the ongoing 11th East African Petroleum Conference, held at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC).
Speaking on March 4, TANESCO’s Research Manager, Eng. Samwel Kessy, said the conference brings together key energy stakeholders and offers opportunities for investment in Tanzania’s power sector.
“TANESCO generates electricity from different sources. Currently, 65% comes from hydropower, while 32% is from natural gas.
Through this conference, we have met investors interested in partnering with Tanzania to generate electricity from renewable energy sources, including solar, wind, and geothermal,” said Eng. Kessy.
Visitors at TANESCO’s booth expressed their appreciation for the company’s efforts to expand and manage electricity supply effectively.
“I am pleased with TANESCO’s progress in bringing electricity not only to urban areas but also to rural communities. I am also excited to hear that the Nyerere Dam project is nearing completion,” said Claire Haule.
Another attendee, Kahema Mziray, praised TANESCO’s efforts in ensuring a stable electricity supply.
“TANESCO is making great progress. It’s reassuring to hear that power rationing will soon be a thing of the past,” said Mziray.
The three-day conference is set to conclude on Saturday, March 7, 2025.
