The Minister for Finance,  Dr. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba (MP), arrived in Mbeya on the evening of March 19, 2025, ahead of his role as the Guest of Honor at the signing ceremony for the construction agreement of the Tunduma-Vwawa Water Project.

The event, scheduled to take place at Mwakakati Grounds in Tunduma, Songwe Region, on March 20, 2025, at 10:00 AM, marks a significant step in enhancing access to clean and safe water for thousands of residents in the project area.

The Tunduma-Vwawa Water Project is expected to bring relief to communities that have long struggled with water shortages, ensuring a reliable supply for domestic, agricultural, and industrial use.

The government has prioritized investment in the water sector, recognizing it as a fundamental driver of socio-economic development.

During an evening Iftar gathering in Mbeya, where he was hosted by the Minister for Water,  Jumaa Aweso, Dr. Nchemba commended the Ministry of Water for its dedication to implementing water projects nationwide.

He praised Minister Aweso for his leadership and commitment, which have accelerated progress in ensuring Tanzanians have access to clean water.

“I must commend my colleague, Minister Aweso, for his relentless efforts in overseeing water projects across the country. The results are visible, and millions of Tanzanians are now benefiting from improved water services,” said Dr. Nchemba.

He further acknowledged President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s commitment to addressing water challenges in Tanzania, noting that her administration has significantly increased funding and implementation of water infrastructure projects.

“The government, under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has made remarkable strides in expanding water services.

Through her vision and directives, more resources are being allocated to ensure that every citizen, regardless of location, has access to this essential service,” he added.

Minister Aweso echoed Dr. Nchemba’s sentiments, affirming that the government remains committed to ensuring sustainable water solutions for all Tanzanians.

“The Ministry of Water is working tirelessly to implement projects that will transform lives. The signing of this contract is yet another milestone in our efforts to provide safe and clean water to our people,” said Minister Aweso.

The signing ceremony is expected to bring together key stakeholders, including government officials, local leaders, and representatives from development partners.

The project is anticipated to significantly improve water access in Tunduma and Vwawa, supporting households, businesses, and public institutions.

With increased government investment in the sector, Tanzania continues to make strides toward achieving universal access to clean water, a key pillar in the country’s development agenda.
