The National Muslim Council of Tanzania (BAKWATA) has officially announced that Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday, March 31, 2025, following the sighting of the new moon.
The Grand Mufti and Chief Sheikh of Tanzania, Sheikh Abuubakar Zubeir, made the announcement today, confirming that the moon was sighted in various parts of the country.
"Today is Sunday, and we would like to inform the Muslim community that the moon has been sighted in different regions across the country. Therefore, tomorrow, Monday, will be Eid," said Sheikh Zubeir in a public statement.
He urged Muslims to celebrate the occasion peacefully and in unity, emphasizing the importance of gratitude after completing a month of fasting during Ramadan.
"This is a time to celebrate by doing good, helping one another, and strengthening unity within our communities," he added.
Preparations for Eid celebrations are already underway across the country, with believers getting ready for special prayers to be held in mosques and designated open grounds. Authorities have also assured the public of security measures to ensure a peaceful holiday.
