The Office of the Attorney General is committed to further strengthening and improving the capacity of government lawyers across the country.
This was announced by the Attorney General, Hamza S. Johari, during a press briefing on March 19, 2025, at the Office of the Attorney General in Kivukoni, Dar es Salaam.
In his remarks, the Attorney General revealed that the office has organized specialized training for government lawyers nationwide, scheduled to take place in Arusha from March 24 to 28, 2025.
The primary goal of this training is to enhance the skills and effectiveness of the government’s legal team.
This training initiative is part of the Office of the Attorney General's broader effort to reinforce its training programs for government lawyers, in line with the directives issued by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan. During the Legal Week celebrations in February 2025, the President urged the Office of the Attorney General to improve and strengthen the performance of government lawyers.
"Her Excellency the President has consistently emphasized the need for the Office of the Attorney General to enhance the capacity of government lawyers so they can perform their duties with excellence," said the Attorney General.
Johari further explained that the training will be led by expert trainers, both from within Tanzania and internationally, who will deliver various sessions aimed at strengthening the lawyers' skills in areas such as drafting, negotiation, and analysis of international treaties, business dispute arbitration, and legislative drafting.
"As you are aware, the President is continuing to open up the country, and the scope for investment is expanding. As lawyers, we must ensure that we remain adaptable to this growth," he noted.
Additionally, the Attorney General highlighted that the training will offer government lawyers a valuable opportunity to refresh their understanding of their role in promoting national patriotism, safeguarding the country's interests, and ensuring national security.
“The training will equip lawyers with the knowledge to better uphold national interests while ensuring the country's security,” he emphasized.
The Attorney General also noted that the training will help lawyers enhance their understanding of laws related to foreign exchange, bonds, and securities.
“We aim to have lawyers who possess a solid understanding of financial markets and capital markets,” he said.
Moreover, Johari called on government lawyers from all over the country to participate in the training without fail.
He urged ministries, institutions, and local government authorities to support and enable government lawyers to attend, as this would significantly enhance their professional performance.
“I urge any government lawyers who have not registered yet to do so promptly so they can take part in this important training, which will help elevate their performance,” he added.
At the same time, the Attorney General took the opportunity to congratulate the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for completing four years of successful leadership and for the significant achievements the nation has made during her tenure.
