Tanzania Women's Boxing team struggles to raise funds for Air tickets, seeks help

By Our Reporter

The Tanzania Boxing Federation (BFF) is in urgent need of TZS 166 million to support the national women’s boxing team in participating in the Women's World Boxing Championships, set to take place in Nis, Serbia, from March 6 to 17 this year.

The funds are required to cover essential costs, including training camp expenses, travel, air tickets, food, accommodation in Serbia, insurance, and allowances for the team.

Without this support, the team may miss out on this important international competition.

Today, the team officially began training at the Police Academy (DPA) in Kurasini, Dar es Salaam. The squad consists of 16 boxers and three coaches, with the latest addition being boxer Martha Patrick from the NGOME team.

The training camp is crucial in preparing the athletes for the tough competition ahead.

Competing in the championships is a major opportunity for Tanzania’s female boxers, as they have a chance to win significant cash prizes.

The total prize pool is USD 2.88 million, with winners receiving the following amounts: USD 100,000 (approximately TZS 255 million) for a gold medal, USD 50,000 (approximately TZS 126.9 million) for silver, USD 25,000 (approximately TZS 63.5 million) for bronze, and USD 10,000 (approximately TZS 25.4 million) for those who make it to the top five.

With such high stakes, the federation is appealing to well-wishers, sponsors, and the government to step in and provide the necessary support to ensure the team makes it to Serbia and represents Tanzania on the global stage.
