Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Albert Chalamila, has called on citizens to pay taxes voluntarily according to their income, emphasizing that collected taxes are visible through development projects such as the construction of bus rapid transit (BRT) roads in the city.

Speaking at the Taxpayer Awards ceremony organized by the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) at Mlimani City, RC Chalamila expressed gratitude to President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for strengthening TRA, which has led to improved tax collection with fewer complaints.

"Taxes are the foundation of our development. It is important for everyone to recognize their responsibility and pay taxes willingly.

I urge TRA to continue educating the public so that people pay taxes with understanding rather than feeling forced," Chalamila said.

He also stressed the importance of citizens demanding receipts when making purchases and avoiding tax evasion.

Additionally, he urged businesses to comply with tax obligations, noting that tax payments contribute significantly to national development.

TRA Commissioner General, Mr. Yusufu Mwenda, stated that Dar es Salaam plays a major role in the national economy.

He reaffirmed TRA’s commitment to fighting illegal trade, improving the business environment, and investing in its staff to enhance service delivery for taxpayers.

The event concluded with RC Chalamila presenting awards to outstanding taxpayers who met TRA’s criteria.
