The Prime Minister of Tanzania, Kassim Majaliwa Majaliwa (MP), has called on citizens to protect the house address signs in their communities.

He explained that the government has received reports that some people are removing the signs showing streets and road names and selling them.

Prime Minister Majaliwa made these comments today, February 8, 2025, during the closing ceremony of the House Address Week celebrations, which took place at the Jakaya Kikwete Conference Center (JKCC).

"We’ve received reports that some people are stealing the house address signs we’ve placed on our houses and selling them.

The government has spent a lot of money setting up this system to help identify houses in our neighborhoods. It’s very important that each one of us helps protect this infrastructure," Prime Minister Majaliwa said.

He also directed the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to keep working on the House Address Law.

This law will help citizens use house addresses when they need services, especially those services that require address identification.

The Prime Minister added that the Ministry should continue these celebrations every year and work towards making them an international event by inviting other countries to take part.

He stressed that the Ministry must work with other organizations to provide necessary tools to local officials so they can do their jobs better at the community level.

Prime Minister Majaliwa has instructed the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI) to manage the house address system at the regional and local levels.

This includes appointing coordinators to oversee the system and training them to do their work properly.

The Prime Minister also called on the Ministry of Finance to work with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to improve the NaPA system by adding a new module for vehicles.

Additionally, he asked the Ministries of Transport, Construction, and Communications to make sure government vehicles are equipped with the NaPA system.

He also encouraged private transport service providers to install the system to make it easier to identify places across the country.

The Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Hon. Jerry William Silaa (MP), stated that the Ministry, in partnership with OR-TAMISEMI, is committed to making sure the house address system continues to work well.

“We will keep checking the information, training local government officials to keep it up to date, creating the House Address Law, improving the NaPA system, and encouraging everyone to use house addresses,” said Minister Silaa.
