Taxpayers in Katavi region have expressed their satisfaction with the performance of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) for implementing the directives of President Samia Suluhu Hassan by collecting taxes without resorting to force.

Speaking at different times during a meeting with TRA Commissioner General, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, and TRA leadership in Katavi on February 7, 2025, they highlighted the increasing closeness between them and TRA, which has made them feel happy about paying taxes.

To demonstrate this growing relationship with TRA, the taxpayers presented a gift to Commissioner General Mwenda, thanking him for visiting them and urging him to continue overseeing discipline within the Authority.

Abdi Kasembo and Daniel Tarimo, two of the businesspeople present, shared that in recent times, there have been opportunities to engage in discussions with TRA regarding assessments, and they have been allowed to pay taxes in installments.

"Commissioner Mwenda, the work you are doing is being seen by God. We no longer fear, and we have become friends with TRA under your leadership. We are very grateful to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for appointing and trusting you," said the businesspeople from Katavi region.

On his part, TRA Commissioner General, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, spoke to the businesspeople in Katavi, emphasizing that TRA's role is to support business growth and ensure the well-being of entrepreneurs in the country.

Mr. Mwenda mentioned that during this period, TRA is focused on improving services for taxpayers and ensuring fairness in tax collection by ensuring that everyone who is supposed to pay taxes does so.

He further stated that to promote fairness, everyone has a duty to expose individuals who evade taxes by not registering businesses or using counterfeit receipts.

Mr. Mwenda added that TRA has invested in educating taxpayers to ensure that the business environment in the country improves, and no business fails. This is why TRA has placed emphasis on providing tax education.

Earlier, the District Commissioner of Mlele, Mr. Majid Mwanga, who had met with Commissioner General Mwenda, said that his district leadership has been collaborating with TRA to provide tax education, promising to continue this effort to expand tax compliance across the country.
