Deputy Minister for Works, Eng. Godfrey Kasekenya, has urged the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Cooperation (CCECC), to ensure high-quality standards in the construction of the 73-kilometer Kahama-Kakola road so that it lasts for a long time.

During his inspection today, Eng. Kasekenya said the road passes through wetlands and must be built properly to support economic growth in the Shinyanga and Geita regions.

"TECU, make sure this road showcases the good work you have done so that it promotes you both locally and internationally," he emphasized.

He added that President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s government aims to pave the entire 118-kilometer road from Kahama to Kakola, Ilogi, and Geita, making travel between Shinyanga and Geita easier and improving road infrastructure in the Lake Zone.

Eng. Kasekenya also instructed Kahama District Commissioner, Mboni Mhita, to ensure the contractor’s equipment is secure and to educate residents on avoiding road reserve encroachment.

"Make sure farming, grazing, and building along the road reserve are controlled so that the construction goes as planned," he stressed.

Kahama District Commissioner, Mboni Mhita, said once completed, the road will help Kahama and Geita towns grow, increase rice production, and boost mining activities, improving the economy of the region.

Meanwhile, TANROADS Shinyanga Regional Manager, Eng. Joel Samwel Mwambungu, said the project will cost over TZS 100.6 billion.

Compensation for 408 affected people will be paid next week, and so far, 299 Tanzanians have been employed through the project.

"We plan to install streetlights in all urban areas along the road to support businesses and services both day and night," Eng. Mwambungu added.

Deputy Minister Kasekenya concluded his two-day visit to inspect infrastructure projects in the Tabora and Shinyanga regions.
