The government, through the Ministry of Works, has re-advertised the tender for constructing the Omugakorongo – Kigarama – Murongo road (110 km).

This includes the Murongo to Businde section (53.4 km). The first tender did not attract qualified contractors, so the process had to start again.

The new tender was announced on October 6, 2024, and bids were opened on December 12, 2024. The evaluation of bidders is ongoing and is expected to be completed by mid-February 2025. After that, the government will move forward with awarding the contract to a contractor.

Deputy Minister of Works, Eng. Godfrey Kasekenya, shared this update in Parliament on February 11, 2025. He was responding to Kyerwa MP Innocent Bilakwate, who asked when the construction of this important road would begin.

“This road is a key connection between Tanzania and Uganda through Kyerwa. We have already started the process for the first section, and we are finalizing procurement.

For the second section, the design is complete, and we are working on securing funds to finish the whole road,” Eng. Kasekenya said.

Regarding the Omurushaka – Nkwenda road, he confirmed that the contractor has been paid and is now preparing to start work.

If there are any delays, the Ministry should be informed so they can take action and ensure work begins immediately.

The Ministry has also completed feasibility studies and detailed designs for the Kisorya – Rugezi road and the connecting Nansio – Rugezi road (11 km).

Construction of a tarmac road for the Nansio – Rugezi section (7 km) started in February 2024. Meanwhile, the government is looking for funds to build a bridge in the area.
