"Criminals, do not test the strength of our police force – we will find you anywhere."

The Minister of Home Affairs, Innocent Bashungwa, has commended the Tanzania Police Force for its swift and effective response in rescuing two kidnapped students from Blessing Medium Primary School in Mwanza.

The successful operation carried out in collaboration with security agencies, parents, and local residents, ensured that the students were found safe and unharmed.

Speaking in Mwanza on February 11, 2025, after visiting Blessing Medium Primary School and the Mwanza Regional Police Headquarters, Bashungwa lauded the teamwork that led to the students’ safe recovery.

He also issued a strong warning to criminals, emphasizing that law enforcement agencies are highly trained, well-equipped, and prepared to eliminate criminal activities.

"The police force, in coordination with other security agencies, operates with advanced technology, some of which is not even visible to the public.

This is why we remain steadfast in handling any situation. Criminals, wherever you are, we can reach you—silently but effectively," he warned.

Bashungwa urged school owners to install surveillance cameras in school buses and within school premises to enhance student safety from their homes to the classroom.

Additionally, he directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Camillus Wambura, to review the registration and operational standards of private security firms to ensure they meet the required professionalism and efficiency.

Mwanza Regional Police Commander, DCP Wilbrod Mutafungwa, confirmed that the students were kidnapped on February 5, 2025.

However, through a swift and well-coordinated operation, the police successfully rescued them on February 7, 2025, without any harm.

Expressing gratitude, one of the parents, Anumie Mtweve, praised the government and the police force for their unwavering support, assuring parents and school administrators that security remains a top priority.
