Dar es Salaam--KCB Bank concluded the New Year
Golf Club competition in grand style, awarding participants and winners in a
ceremony that celebrated not just sportsmanship but also the growing impact of
golf in Tanzania.
Speaking during the event
recently, Ms. Christina Manyenye, KCB Bank's Head of Marketing and Corporate
Affairs (pictured), emphasized the transformative role golf plays in opening
new opportunities for stakeholders in the sports sector. “I would like to
congratulate everyone who participated in the tournament,” she said. “Your
energy, time, and commitment to the game were commendable.”
KCB Bank’s partnership with
Lugalo Golf Club has been instrumental in developing and promoting golf in
Tanzania, marking its second consecutive year of collaboration with the club.
This partnership has supported the sport’s growth and created platforms for
players to shine on both national and international stages.
Lugalo Golf Club, a hub for
military and civilian golfers, has achieved international acclaim, particularly
in military golf competitions. Teams, including the women’s team, won bronze
medals in tournaments held in Abuja and Harare last year, underscoring the
club's commitment to excellence.
Ms. Manyenye expressed her
gratitude to Lugalo Golf Club’s leadership for fostering this partnership,
reaffirming KCB Bank’s commitment to supporting sports initiatives that benefit
all age groups and generations. “We look forward to more achievements in
promoting sports and community development,” she added.
Brigadier General (Retired)
Michael Luwongo, Chairman of Lugalo Golf Club, reflected on the remarkable
journey the sport has taken since the club's inception. He acknowledged the
Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) for their role in establishing and
supporting the club, which has grown into a respected institution within the
golfing community.
The chairman also shared plans
for infrastructure improvements to ensure the club’s sustainability. “We are
grateful for the rains we had last year, which helped us maintain our grounds.
However, we are working towards digging a well to secure a reliable water
supply and building a floodlit platform. This will enable our members to
practice even at night, removing limitations caused by fading daylight,” he
stated.
In addition to awarding all
participants in the tournament, KCB Bank announced plans to organize ongoing
seminars to further promote golf both locally and internationally. These
initiatives aim to nurture talent, enhance skills, and expand the sport’s reach
across the region.
The New Year Golf Tournament
highlighted the importance of collaboration between corporate organizations
like KCB Bank and sports institutions like Lugalo Golf Club. Together, they are
not only fostering a love for the game but also creating opportunities for
personal and professional growth in Tanzania’s sports landscape.
