The Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Dr. Khatibu Kazungu, has lauded the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) staff for their dedication to managing the country’s power plants effectively.
During his inspection of the Mtera Power Station on January 5, 2025, Dr. Kazungu emphasized the importance of ensuring a reliable electricity supply to address public complaints about power challenges.
He urged TANESCO staff to maintain their efforts in managing the facilities, stressing that consistent and sufficient electricity is vital for advancing industrialization, agriculture, and business—key drivers of national economic growth.
Dr. Kazungu also directed the contractor overseeing the refurbishment of Mtera’s control room to ensure the installation of modern equipment to enhance operational efficiency.
He reiterated the need for advanced tools to improve performance and ensure the station meets its energy production goals.
Mtera Power Station Manager, Engineer Edmund Seif, highlighted TANESCO’s commitment to prioritizing the protection of the water sources at the Mtera Dam, which are essential for electricity generation.
He explained that TANESCO collaborates with water resource management authorities to sustain these vital resources.
Proper maintenance of the water sources, he noted, is critical for maintaining the efficiency of the power plants and avoiding challenges caused by water shortages, which could disrupt electricity production and impact communities reliant on the energy supply.
Engineer Seif further stated that TANESCO is dedicated to conducting regular and timely maintenance of its infrastructure.
This commitment ensures the reliability and accuracy of electricity services, contributing to the company’s goal of meeting the energy needs of Tanzanians effectively and efficiently.
