Citizens commend President Samia for electrifying rural Health centers

By Alfred Zacharia

Residents of Uyui District in Tabora Region have expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for successfully bringing electricity to rural health centers.

They highlighted that the arrival of electricity has significantly enhanced healthcare services in their communities.

Previously, patients had to travel long distances or endure lengthy waits for diagnostic results, as test samples were sent to urban hospitals.

"We used to face immense challenges, needing to travel to Lolangulu, Ndono, or Usoke. Maternal deaths will now decrease because healthcare is more accessible.

In emergency situations, if a child needed immediate care, we had to travel to Kitete in town. If you couldn’t afford the transport, it became a real challenge, and we lost our children.

We are deeply grateful to President Samia Suluhu," said Mariam Haruna, a resident of Mabama Village in Uyui District.

Elderly community members Omary Mohammed and Suleiman Mrisho also expressed their gratitude, praising President Samia for her various development initiatives, including rural electrification projects. They vowed to leverage the newly available electricity to foster their community's growth.

Dr. Renatus Mathias, the Medical Officer in Charge of Hassani Mwakasuvi Health Center in Mabama Village, shared how the introduction of electricity has transformed healthcare at the facility.

With power now available, the center can operate previously unusable equipment, enabling quicker and more efficient diagnostic services.

"Before, we couldn’t use certain equipment because it required electricity, forcing patients to seek tests elsewhere.

Now, all our equipment is functional, and we can perform tests and provide results right here. There’s no need to send samples to district or regional hospitals, meaning patients receive timely care," explained Dr. Mathias.

Discussing the broader project of electrifying health centers and water pumps, implemented by the Rural Energy Agency (REA), Jaina Msuya, a Community Development Officer at REA, highlighted the project's focus on improving healthcare in rural areas.

"To further improve the quality of life for its citizens, the Sixth Phase Government has constructed health centers at the ward level, and many of these have already been connected to electricity.

This ensures that citizens receive the highest standard of healthcare services,” Msuya emphasized.
