The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) is poised to establish a collaborative partnership with the Comorian Agency for Digital Development (ANADEN) to advance Information and Communication Technology (ICT) initiatives.
The announcement was made during a high-level knowledge-sharing visit by ANADEN’s delegation to TCRA headquarters on November 22, 2024.
The delegation, led by ANADEN Director General Said Moinuo Ahamada and accompanied by the Comorian Ambassador to Tanzania, Said Yakub, praised Tanzania’s remarkable progress in the communications sector.
They acknowledged the country’s achievements as a model for digital transformation within the region.
Speaking on behalf of TCRA’s Director General, the Director of Sectoral Affairs, Engineer Felician Mwesigwa, expressed pride in Tanzania’s ICT milestones.
He highlighted the establishment of a national data center as a key achievement, underscoring its role in supporting the country’s digital economy. Mwesigwa commended ANADEN for selecting Tanzania and TCRA as benchmarks for best practices in ICT.
Director Ahamada outlined the objectives of the visit, emphasizing ANADEN’s aspiration to replicate Tanzania’s successes in Comoros.
Key areas of focus include developing systems to support government operations, such as establishing a national domain name registry and a national data center.
These initiatives, Ahamada explained, aim to drive greater adoption of digital solutions in both public and private sectors.
“We aim to develop systems that will streamline government operations and promote digital growth,” Ahamada stated. He also noted that Comoros is expecting financial support from the African Development Bank (ADB) to strengthen its ICT infrastructure through ANADEN. “With these funds, we plan to enhance our network systems, upgrade the skills of our ICT professionals, and improve the interoperability of our platforms,” he added.
Ambassador Yakub echoed Ahamada’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of regional collaboration. He expressed optimism about the upcoming signing of a formal partnership agreement between TCRA and ANADEN.
“This partnership will enable the exchange of expertise, helping Comoros advance in ICT. We also look forward to welcoming Tanzanian specialists to Comoros to provide insights and recommendations for improving our systems,” he said.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen bilateral ties and contribute to the development of robust ICT ecosystems in both nations. By fostering knowledge exchange and capacity building, the partnership will position Tanzania and Comoros as leaders in the digital transformation of the region.
