Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mr. Cosato Chumi, on behalf of Minister Mr. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, concluded a successful partnership dialogue between Tanzania and the European Union, which has been strengthening the union since the 1960s.

Speaking at the conference held at the JNICC, Chumi expressed his belief that the discussions marked a significant milestone in enhancing economic resilience through collaboration.

He emphasized the government’s commitment, alongside the EU, to fostering robust business cooperation, which is expected to further bolster economic ties between the two partners.

The meeting was attended by delegates from various EU member states, with Chumi inviting them to explore Zanzibar during their leisure time.

Rita Laranjinha, Managing Director for Africa at the European External Action Service (EEAS), extended sincere appreciation to Tanzania for successfully deepening its cooperation with the EU and reinforcing shared priorities.

She noted the agreement on a wide range of issues discussed during the meeting and thanked all participants for their valuable contributions.

Laranjinha also highlighted the EU's involvement in supporting the growth of Zanzibar’s tourism economy, with recent agreements focusing on sustainable development, marine conservation, and gender equality in the region.

These agreements are part of the EU's broader strategic efforts to support Zanzibar's economic and social development.

Looking ahead, Laranjinha referred to the EU's 2024-2027 Strategic Plan, which emphasizes the Green Climate Fund’s role in providing enhanced support to developing countries.

The plan aims to improve access to financial resources and drive impactful partnerships, with a focus on sustainable development.

The EU reiterated its strong commitment to democracy, human rights, and multilateralism, reaffirming its ongoing support for free and fair elections, regional peace, and security.

The dialogue also addressed mutual interests in economic trade, business investments, and measures to combat violence and promote global development.

Both parties are optimistic about the future of this partnership, with a shared focus on enhancing peace and security in the region while strengthening economic ties.
