The Deputy Minister and Minister of Energy, Hon. Doto Biteko, stated that a total of 218 billion Tanzanian shillings have been invested in research and innovation to support positive government initiatives.

He made these remarks on December 2, 2024, in Dar es Salaam during the 9th Science and Technology Conference, which focused on affordable loans to benefit skill development. The conference was organized by the Ministry of Education, COSTECH, and other stakeholders.

The theme of the conference was "Science in Tackling Challenges and Supporting a Competitive Economy for Sustainable Development Goals 6 and 8."

Biteko urged scientists, saying that the government recognizes the importance of science in creating a favorable environment for research. He also emphasized that the government is committed to increasing its investment in research year after year, considering the available budget.

Between 2015 and 2022, a total of 22.8 million dollars from development partners was spent on improving research infrastructure, developing resources, and supporting innovative startups. Biteko thanked the stakeholders who contributed their funds to improve the quality of work and research.

He also highlighted the government's investment in the Education Transformation Project, which is worth 425 million USD (approximately 1.13 trillion Tanzanian shillings).

The project aims to revolutionize education across the country by constructing classrooms, renovating buildings, purchasing laboratory equipment for 370 schools, training 506 lecturers, and improving 563 school infrastructures. These changes will contribute significantly to meeting global job market demands.

As well, Biteko commended COSTECH and the Ministry of Education for organizing the national science, technology, and innovation competitions through 50 innovation centers. These centers have created over 100 startups and more than 50 job opportunities, further promoting innovation and creating employment.
