Land Ministry requires daily morning meetings to improve service

By Flora Mkoloma

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Human Settlements Development, Engineer Anthony Sanga, has directed all land offices across Tanzania from regional to district levels to hold brief morning meetings before starting their daily duties.

The initiative aims to enhance efficiency in addressing the sector’s recurring challenges and improving service delivery to the public.

Engineer Sanga stressed the importance of these daily briefings in fostering better coordination among land officers.

“Hold short meetings every morning before starting work, even if it's only for five minutes. Review what was accomplished the previous day, identify any challenges, and strategize solutions,” he said.

He issued these instructions on December 2, 2024, at the Jakaya Kikwete Hall in Dodoma during the ongoing Land Week celebrations, which will be officially launched on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

In his remarks, Engineer Sanga reminded land sector officials of the need for unity and collaboration in providing seamless services.

He emphasized that all land officers, regardless of their specializations, must work as a team to meet the public’s expectations.

“When you tell a citizen that the map is not ready, they won’t understand. Don’t send them away—assist them instead. Technical matters like mapping are your responsibility, so let’s shift our focus to providing solutions rather than creating barriers,” he urged.

He further warned that strict disciplinary measures would be taken against staff who intentionally delay services.

“We are committed to eliminating service delays. I urge department heads to monitor their teams closely and ensure timely service delivery,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands and Human Settlements Development for Zanzibar, Ms. Mhaza Gharib Juma, highlighted the significance of Land Week in strengthening cooperation between Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania.

She noted that the overarching goal of both governments is to provide better services to the public.

“Land is a critical asset for national development. We must develop robust strategies to ensure land is managed with integrity and fairness to attract investment. Proper land management will generate the revenue needed to improve public services,” Ms. Mhaza emphasized.

Land Week serves as a platform to address key issues in the land sector and promote collaboration between different stakeholders to enhance service delivery and national development.
