Tanga The Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Minerals, Mr. Msafiri Mbibo, has highlighted the vital role of geoscientists in achieving Tanzania's Vision 2030, particularly in the country's goal to harness its mineral wealth for national development.

Speaking on December 4, 2024, during the opening of the Annual Geoscientists' Conference in Tanga, Mr. Mbibo emphasized that geoscientists are an essential pillar in realizing the country's ambitious vision. Representing the Minister of Minerals, he noted the growing importance of advanced geoscientific research in the quest to unlock Tanzania's full mineral potential.

"Geoscientists are at the forefront of Vision 2030. Their expertise in conducting thorough geophysical research using modern technology is crucial for understanding the characteristics of rocks, enabling us to identify various types of minerals present in our land," said Mr. Mbibo. He further explained that such in-depth research would not only help enhance mineral exploration but also ensure that the country's vast resources are efficiently utilized to benefit the economy and citizens.

Mr. Mbibo also expressed gratitude to the geoscientists for their continued commitment to supporting Vision 2030. He acknowledged their contributions and readiness to embrace the future of Tanzania's mining sector through the advancement of knowledge and technology.

One of the key targets of the Vision 2030 initiative, as outlined by Mr. Mbibo, is to increase the scope of in-depth geoscientific research to at least 50% by 2030. Currently, only 16% of research in the sector is conducted with modern technology, a gap that the Ministry of Minerals aims to bridge in the coming years to enhance the country’s mineral exploration efforts.

The implications of this initiative are profound. As the nation seeks to tap into its mineral resources more effectively, geoscientists will play a central role in improving the efficiency of mining operations, advancing sustainable practices, and ensuring that mineral wealth translates into long-term economic growth and prosperity for Tanzania.
