Arusha District residents hail President Samia for subsidized gas stove initiative

Arusha District residents have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for the government’s initiative to provide gas stoves at half price.

The project, a collaboration between the Rural Energy Agency (REA) and Lake Gas Company, aims to improve living standards while addressing environmental challenges in the community.

During a recent distribution event, locals highlighted the importance of the project, particularly as the ongoing rains have made firewood increasingly scarce and expensive.

Neema Rumas, a resident of Siwandeti village, shared her appreciation, saying the gas stoves have brought much-needed relief. “It’s been difficult to rely on firewood and charcoal because wet wood takes so long to light. This project came at the perfect time,” she said.

Daniel Mitiweki, Chairman of Siwandeti Village, praised the initiative as a solution to the environmental strain caused by deforestation. The widespread use of gas stoves, he noted, has curbed the cutting of trees for firewood and charcoal, helping to preserve the local ecosystem.

Rea’s Project Supervisor for the Northern Zone, Engineer Gift Kombe, encouraged residents to follow training on proper stove usage to maximize their benefits. He also emphasized the importance of regularly refilling the gas cylinders to ensure continuous access to clean cooking energy.

This initiative is part of Tanzania’s National Clean Cooking Energy Strategy for 2024-2034, introduced by President Hassan earlier this year. It represents a significant step toward promoting sustainable energy solutions and improving the quality of life for communities across the country.
