The Rural Energy Agency (REA) has allocated TSh 455.7 million to distribute 22,785 gas cylinders in Tabora Region. This initiative aims to promote the use of clean cooking energy in the country.

The announcement was made on November 22, 2024, by Ms. Advera Mwijaje, the Director of Renewable and Alternative Energy Technologies at REA. She presented a report on the agency’s projects in Tabora, highlighting the importance of promoting clean energy.

The gas cylinders will be distributed across several districts in Tabora, including Uyui, Urambo, Nzega, Sikonge, Kaliua, Igunga, and the Tabora district itself. This is part of REA's broader strategy to improve energy access in rural areas and reduce the reliance on traditional cooking methods, which are harmful to the environment and health.

Dr. John Mboya, the Regional Administrative Secretary for Tabora, stressed that clean cooking energy is now a global priority. He assured that the regional government is committed to educating the public about the safe use of this energy. The goal is to improve the quality of life for the people while supporting environmental sustainability.

Dr. Mboya also praised REA for its efforts in expanding electricity access to villages and remote areas. He encouraged the agency to continue working with other partners, including large companies, to ensure the success of these energy projects.

“I applaud REA for its ongoing work in distributing gas cylinders and expanding electricity access. These projects are important for the development of our region,” said Dr. Mboya. He concluded by urging continued collaboration with stakeholders to make the energy projects more effective and impactful for local communities.
