Mtwara--In a recent directive, the Chief Executive Officer of the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (Tarura), Engineer Victor Seff, on November 11, 2024, instructed regional managers to allocate a portion of their annual budgets for streetlight maintenance on public roads. The mandate aims to enhance road safety and operational efficiency across the country.
Engineer Seff issued the instructions during a site visit to the Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA) industrial area in Mtwara, where he assessed the condition of a 1.3-kilometer tarmac road constructed in 2021.
The directive emphasizes lighting upkeep and includes broader environmental measures, such as regular grass trimming and roadside maintenance, to ensure the longevity and quality of infrastructure in industrial and urban areas.
As part of his visit, Engineer Seff highlighted the significance of the EPZA zone, which hosts businesses that produce goods meeting rigorous global standards, including those of the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Products from these Special Economic Zones and Economic Processing Zones have successfully penetrated international markets, making infrastructure upkeep in these areas particularly critical for sustaining economic growth.
Responding to the CEO's directive, Engineer Zuena Mvungi, TARURA’s Regional Manager for Mtwara, expressed her full support, affirming the importance of ensuring the safety and functionality of key economic areas like the EPZA zone. The proactive approach aligns with TARURA's mission to maintain the nation's road network's integrity, supporting local and international business activities.
The directive reinforces TARURA’s commitment to infrastructure quality and pedestrian safety, particularly in economically strategic areas across Tanzania.
