The Mbeya Regional Administrative Secretary, Rodrick Mpogoro, has commended the Rural Energy Agency (REA) for partnering with Oryx Gas Tanzania Limited to supply subsidized six-kilogram gas cylinders and accessories to rural and peri-urban areas within the Mbeya Region.

Mpogoro expressed his appreciation today, November 20, 2024, during the presentation of a project report on the distribution of six-kilogram gas cylinders.

The report was delivered by the Director of Renewable and Alternative Energy Technologies, Ms. Advera Mwijage.

He highlighted that the distribution of gas cylinders across the Mbeya region will significantly promote the use of clean and safe energy.

“I applaud Rea for introducing this initiative. I urge them to sustain the project to ensure that more residents can access this essential energy source, which is a game-changer for us,” Mpogoro said.

Ms. Mwijage noted that the government, through Rea, has allocated funds to implement projects aimed at encouraging the use of clean energy sources, including Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), in rural and peri-urban areas.

“The goal of this project is to promote, enable, and improve access to clean cooking energy to reduce deforestation, as approximately 400,000 hectares of forest are cut down annually,” she added. She also listed the benefiting districts as Mbeya, Chunya, Kyela, Mbarali, and Rungwe.
