Dar es Salaam – Tanzania's Minister of Minerals, Hon. Anthony Mavunde, has extended an invitation to Finnish business communities to invest in the country’s mining sector, emphasizing Tanzania’s abundant mineral resources, investment-friendly environment, and predictable policies.
Minister Mavunde made these remarks yesterday November 2024, during a breakfast meeting held in Masaki, Dar es Salaam.
The event, organized by the Finnish Embassy in Tanzania, aimed to bring together Finnish mining entrepreneurs and Tanzania’s Ministry of Minerals to explore potential areas of collaboration and economic opportunities within the mining industry.
The Finnish Ambassador to Tanzania, H.E. Theresa Zitting, lauded the strong economic ties between Finland and Tanzania, noting this as an opportune moment to bolster the relationship through investments in the mining sector.
She commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan's transformative leadership and efforts to elevate mining as a key contributor to Tanzania’s economic growth.
Meanwhile, Prof. Tiilikainen Kimmo, Director General of Finland’s Geological Survey (GTK), emphasized Finland's commitment to supporting Tanzania’s mineral exploration initiatives through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between GTK and Tanzania’s Geological Survey (GST).
This collaboration will enhance Tanzania’s mineral research capacity, targeting an ambitious goal of mapping 50% of the country’s land area for mineral potential by 2030.
Minister Mavunde, in his keynote address, highlighted the immense opportunities in Tanzania’s mining sector, particularly in strategic minerals that are in high demand globally.
He reassured investors of Tanzania’s stability and readiness to facilitate investments, crediting President Hassan’s leadership for creating a conducive environment through her 4R leadership philosophy.
“Tanzania is richly endowed with mineral resources, positioning us as a prime destination for investment in the mining sector. We warmly invite Finnish businesses to seize these opportunities and become partners in driving our vision of transforming mining into a pillar of prosperity and economic development,” Minister Mavunde said.
The Finnish delegation is in Tanzania to attend the 2024 International Mining and Investment Conference, a significant platform showcasing the country’s potential in the mining industry.
This engagement marks another step in deepening economic ties between Tanzania and Finland while reinforcing the role of mining in Tanzania’s strategic development agenda.
