In a major step toward promoting clean cooking energy across Tanzania, 9,765 subsidized six-kilogram cooking gas cylinders, complete with necessary accessories, are being distributed to rural and peri-urban communities in Rukwa Region.
The initiative, supported by Taifa Gas Limited, aligns with the government’s commitment to providing safe, affordable, and environmentally friendly cooking energy to all citizens.
Rukwa Regional Commissioner, Hon. Makongoro Nyerere, emphasized the significance of this initiative, urging Tanzanians to support President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s clean cooking energy agenda. The agenda is aimed at improving public health and reducing environmental impact by offering safer cooking options.
Speaking on November 21, 2024, after a presentation on Rural Energy Agency (REA) projects by Ms. Advera Mwijage, Director of Renewable and Alternative Energy Technologies, Hon. Nyerere underscored the President’s dedication to advancing clean energy solutions at both national and global levels.
“President Samia is championing clean cooking energy as an international priority to ensure Tanzanians can cook in health- and eco-friendly environments,” Hon. Nyerere said, adding that public education on clean energy use would be a key component of the initiative in Rukwa.
Ms. Mwijage further highlighted the government’s goal of creating accessible, safe cooking environments for every Tanzanian by providing affordable and easy-to-use clean cooking energy options.
Kalambo, Sumbawanga, and Nkasi districts are among those targeted for the distribution, as the government works to enhance energy access and environmental sustainability across the region.
