The Permanent Secretary of Public Service, Mr. Juma Mkomi, held a meeting with the Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Mr. Ara Hitoshi, to discuss further enhancing the partnership between JICA and Tanzania’s Office of the President, Public Service Management, and Good Governance.

The discussions took place at the Government City offices in Mtumba, Dodoma, marking another milestone in the growing relationship between the two entities.

One of the key topics discussed was the provision of training opportunities for Tanzanian civil servants. The leaders also explored the process for granting work permits to Japanese nationals who are involved in government projects within Tanzania's public service sector.

These projects offer Tanzanian employees the chance to acquire valuable skills, which can be applied even after the completion of the projects, thus contributing to long-term national development.

During the meeting, both Mr. Mkomi and Mr. Hitoshi highlighted the importance of this partnership, praising the efforts of the leadership in both countries.

In particular, they acknowledged the support from President H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania and Prime Minister H.E. Shigeru Ishiba of Japan in fostering stronger cooperation.

The leaders emphasized that this collaboration is essential not only for the present but for future progress in governance and public service reform.

Mr. Mkomi also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to JICA for its ongoing support in providing higher education scholarships to Tanzanians, especially public servants.

These scholarships play a critical role in enhancing the capacity of the Tanzanian public sector. He reiterated that the historic partnership between Tanzania and Japan will continue to grow, particularly in the areas of education and public service management, benefiting both nations in the long term.

This meeting underscored the continued commitment of both nations to mutual development goals, fostering a stronger and more effective public service sector in Tanzania.
