Dar es Salaam— In a bold call to action, ACT Wazalendo November 9, 2024, publicly urged President Samia Suluhu Hassan to intervene in the ongoing local elections, where numerous opposition candidates have been disqualified under controversial circumstances.

In a statement released by Party Leader Dorothy Jonas Semu, ACT Wazalendo condemned what it described as politically motivated disqualifications, impacting over 60% of its candidates across Tanzania.

"We are witnessing a deliberate campaign against opposition candidates that threatens the integrity of this election and undermines democracy in Tanzania," the statement reads. "We call on President Samia and her advisors to address these disqualifications promptly, as they erode public trust and tarnish the democratic process."

ACT Wazalendo’s leadership is mobilizing its members to file formal objections against disqualification decisions. The party has assured its members that they are not alone in this fight, with active discussions underway with other opposition leaders to form a united front against what they view as anti-democratic tactics.

"We urge our members to stand firm, complete all necessary procedures, and submit written objections where disqualifications are unjustified. Every candidate should feel empowered to challenge actions that deny them a fair chance in these elections," Semu stated.

ACT Wazalendo also indicated it is collaborating with opposition parties to prevent further interference by officials who, they claim, are obstructing democratic progress. The party’s call highlights its resolve to protect Tanzania's democratic space and hold those in power accountable for ensuring fair political competition.
