Bukoba—The Bukoba District Councillors held a crucial two-day session from November 14 to 15, 2024, at the 'Chamber Lounge in Rwamishenye Ward, the former district headquarters. The meeting, marking the first quarter of the 2024/25 financial year, focused on setting key priorities for the district’s development.
Presenting the council’s agenda, Bukoba District Council Executive Director Fatina Laay highlighted their commitment to aligning with national goals.
She emphasized good governance, the acquisition of medical equipment for healthcare facilities, the construction of secondary schools in Katerero and Rubafu wards, and the completion of specialized wards for women, men, and children at the District Hospital.
The council also reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing revenue collection and ensuring the lawful management of funds.
The council approved a budget of Sh 11.8 billion for development projects in the 2024/25 financial year. By September 2024, Sh 1.6 billion, representing 14.2 percent of the development budget, had been disbursed. Of this, Sh 1.65 billion, equivalent to 97 percent, has already been utilized to implement critical initiatives.
Improvements in revenue collection were noted, with Sh 1.1 billion collected between July and September 2024. This represents 36 percent of the annual target, significantly exceeding the 25 percent estimate for the quarter.
The 11 percent increase signals a positive trajectory in income generation for the district. The session, attended by councilors and departmental heads, concluded with a renewed commitment to advancing development and maintaining financial accountability.
